Description
The fifth coin in a bullion series featuring Australia's Most Dangerous animals follows the fourth release of the Box Jellyfish. This fifth release depicts the tiger snake in both gold and silver. The tiger snake can be found in southern Australia, and is known for its striking black and yellow bands, however some tiger snakes are without these bold markings. The dark bands on the snakes make it easier to absorb heat during the short growing season. If the tiger snake feels threatened, they can become aggressive, and their bite releases toxic venom. This venom can be fatal to humans. Tiger snakes can swim, with the ability to remain underwater for up to nine minutes. They hunt during the day and feed on various animals such as birds, mammals, fish and frogs. Female snakes can produce up to 64 baby snakes, and once the baby snakes break free of the mother's sac, they are entirely independent.
